Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation

Martin Luther's 95 Thesis

The Ninety-five Theses or Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences is a list of propositions for an academic disputation written in 1517 by Martin Luther, professor of moral theology at the University of Wittenberg, Germany.

Martin Luther's 95 Thesis Condemned Catholic Corruption

When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said, ``Repent'' (Mt 4:17), he willed the entire life of believers to be one of repentance. This word cannot be understood as referring to the sacrament of penance, that is, confession and satisfaction, as administered by the clergy.

Only God, Not Mormon Priesthood Leaders Can Forgive Sin

The Act of Confessing your sins to a Mormon Bishop is no different than confessing your sins to a Catholic Priest. Neither one has the power to forgive you for and in behalf of God. We can only recieve a remittance of sin through Jesus Christ. Only through Jesus Christ can we approach the Father.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14)

Money Cannot Buy Salvation

They preach only human doctrines who say that as soon as the money clinks into the money chest, the soul flies out of purgatory. It is certain that when money clinks in the money chest, greed and avarice can be increased; but when the church intercedes, the result is in the hands of God alone.
- Martin Luther
But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
- Jesus Christ

Tithing is a 3 Way Agreement

We pay our Tithing as just one testimony of our Faith in Jesus Christ. We are also commanded to Love God and our Neighbors as Ourselves. There are really 3 Parties that accept responsibility in this agreement.

1. The Honest Tithe-payer who makes the contribution

2. The Church Leader that accepts the Contribution

3. God, who also accepts the contribution

The Honest Tithe Payer must also be humble and repentant:

5 For I remember the word of God which saith by their works ye shall know them; for if their works be good, then they are good also. 6 For behold, God hath said a man being evil cannot do that which is good; for if he offereth a gift, or prayeth unto God, except he shall do it with real intent it profiteth him nothing.  For behold, it is not counted unto him for righteousness. For behold, if a man being evil giveth a gift, he doeth it grudgingly; wherefore it is counted unto him the same as if he had retained the gift; wherefore he is counted evil before God.
- Moroni 7

The Church Leaders Must Also Be Good Stewards

Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
- Jesus Christ

Priestcraft is an Abomination to the Lord

3 And he had gone about among the people, preaching to them that which he termed to be the word of God, bearing down against the church; declaring unto the people that every priest and teacher ought to become popular; and they ought not to labor with their hands, but that they ought to be supported by the people.
- Alma 1
But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor for money they shall perish.
- 2 Nephi 26:31
